Patriot League Release

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - American University women's basketball sophomore Jade Edwards earned the team's first Patriot League Player of the Week selection of the season on Monday along with a GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week nod after leading the team to an overtime victory at Army West Point on Saturday, 67-62.

The Patriot League Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school's sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

This is Edwards' second career weekly nod from the league after she earned a Rookie of the Week selection last year.

Edwards put up her second double-double of the season, fourth of her career, on Saturday to lead the Eagles over the Black Knights. She led the team with 11 rebounds and scored a game-high 23 points, just missing out on her career-high (24) from earlier in the season. Of those 23 points, seven came in the final 2:30 of the fourth quarter, keeping the Eagles within striking distance before grabbing the defensive rebound that led to junior Indeya Sanders' fast break to send the game into overtime.

The Chicago, Ill., native continues to rank among the top in the league in scoring. She currently sits in fourth in the overall rankings with 14.2 ppg.

American is back on the road this week with a 6 p.m. start at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday. The Eagles will return home on Saturday to face Bucknell at 2 p.m. The game will double as the team's annual Play4Kay Pink Out and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Washington Plus along with the Patriot League Network.
