WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team (2-6) will look to pick up its first road win of the season on Sunday with a trip to Radford (2-5) for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Eagles and Highlanders split the two-game series with Radford taking the first matchup on December 22, 2007 (58-50) and AU taking the second on Dec. 28, 2008 (68-45).
LAST TIME OUT
- The Eagles kept tight with Minnesota (RV/RV)Â throughout an impressive battle that saw eight lead changes and four ties, but couldn't close as a late 15-0 run from the Gophers delivered them the 70-53 win.Â
- Sophomore Jade Edwards led the team for the sixth time this season, third consecutive game, with her fourth 20-point performance of the year, hitting an even 20.Â
- Senior Morgan Bartner was the only other Eagle in double-figures with 10 points while junior Indeya Sanders led with five rebounds, six assists, and one block.Â
- The Eagles forced 15 turnovers from a Minnesota team ranked fifth in Division I for fewest turnovers per game (11.0) and turnover margin (+10.7) while giving up only 12 against a squad that averages 21.7 forced turnovers per game (26th in Division I).Â
- American kept the Golden Gophers within reach for most of the game, with Minnesota gaining a brief six-point edge in the first quarter before the Eagles knotted the score for the second time at 11-11 with just over 1:00 left in the stanza. A pair of late Minnesota free throws put the visitors ahead 13-11 heading into the first break.Â
- Minnesota jumped ahead by eight briefly in the second quarter, but AU responded once again and took a brief lead of their own after a three from sophomore Maddie Doring brought the score up to 26-25. But, again, a pair of final baskets from the Gophers put them back ahead at 31-26 at halftime.Â
- American battled back again in the third, taking the lead twice after clutch baskets from Sanders and Edwards, but Minnesota regained the upper hand and led by two heading into the final 10 minutes, 46-44.Â
