Skowron Sets School Records as Eagles Beat Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Erica Skowron set single-game school records with 11 points and six assists, while freshman Emma Vinall led the Eagles with six goals as American University beat Howard, 19-8, in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday at Jacobs Field.

The victory was the first of the season for American, which improved to 1-3. The Bison were playing their season-opener.

Skowron, a sophomore attacker, broke the old AU mark of eight points, set eight different times and last by Jessica Wojciechowski in 2016. Olivia Mangan had the old single-game mark for assists, with five, also set in 2016.

Vinall had her six goals on just six shots for the Eagles, and finished her game with 10 draw controls and five ground balls.

Lexi Perez and Izabella Jade added two goals apiece for AU, while Peyton Smith chipped in with three assists.

Ashley Duncan had four goals and five points for Howard, with Natia Warren finishing with three goals. Amerra Sheckles had 13 saves in the Bison net.

American rolled to leads of 5-1, 9-2 and 13-3 on its way to a 14-4 lead at halftime.

American's next match is on Saturday at UMBC, beginning at noon. The Eagles' next home match is Tuesday, March 6 against ODU at 3 p.m.
