WASHINGTON - After leading the American University women's basketball team to an overpowering 64-42 victory over UMBC on Wednesday, senior Kaitlyn Lewis has been selected as the team's first GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2018-19 season.
Lewis put up a season-high 16 points alongside classmate Elina Koskimies while adding a career-high five steals and season-high five assists. She shot 6-for-13 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range, and gave up only one turnover in her 27 minutes of play.
American will be on the road for the next three weeks with games at Virginia (Dec. 5), Penn State (Dec. 16) and High Point (Dec. 20). The Eagles' next home game is at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 against Ohio.
