Divers Fiona Caulfield and Anna Derrow won individual titles and Scott Callander had a pair of lifetime bests to highlight American University performances in two pools so far this weekend.
Caulfield won the women's 1-meter diving event and Derrow won at 3-meters at the ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow, N.Y. Derrow, an Eagle freshman, improved her season-best by 22 points on the 3-meter board to move into fifth all-time at AU with a 254.85 performance.
Caulfield, an Eagle senior, won the women's 1-meter diving competition with a score of 247.55. It was a season-best by four points and was only two points off her career-best.
On Friday, Callander earned his second lifetime best in as many days by going 48.84 in the men's 100-yard butterfly. His mark improved his 49.00 from last season, as he came within a blink of the 48.77 school record set in 1998 by Johan Setterberg. Callander went 49.02 in the evening session, moving up one spot from qualifying to finish 15th.
Callander went a season-best 1:49.59 in a 200 fly time trial on Saturday morning, the second-fastest mark of his collegiate career.
Also on Friday, sophomore Garrett Sooter cut 13 seconds off his previous season-best in the men's 1,650 freestyle, going 17:04.43 to finish 11th.
Late Saturday, Natalie Hamlet trimmed five seconds off her season-best in the 400 individual medley, with her mark of 4:33.62 moving her from 16th to 11th all-time at AU.
Senior Tori Haviland posted career-bests in two events on Saturday night, moving from eighth to seventh with a 56.98 in the 100 fly and trimming two seconds off her previous best in the 200 free and moving into eighth at 1:52.85 in the 200 free.
Alex Feys went 56.66 for a second-place finish in the 100 fly and move into a tie for fifth all-time at AU. Ryan Jolley had a season-best of 1:56.76 in the 200 free and later had a season-best 1:01.11 in the 100 back.
Freshman Liam Riebling had AU's best individual finish in the morning session, placing sixth in the men's 500 free. His mark of 4:46.06 was the best by an Eagle so far this season.
Matt Bean had a season-best 23.10 in the men's 50 free, while Hamlet cut nine seconds off her season-best mark in the 500 free by placing 14th in 5:11.06. Later in the evening, Bean finished seventh in the 100 backstroke, with his season-best 52.40 clocking being just 0.01 seconds off the 16th fastest time ever at AU.
The final day of the ECAC Winter Championships will be contested on Sunday.
