Box Score WASHINGTON – Olivia Mangan made the most of Senior Day at American University, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists on an eight-point day to lift the Eagles to a 15-12 win over Lafayette in a Patriot League women's lacrosse match on Saturday.
The win was American's first of the season in Patriot League play and improved the Eagles' mark to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the PL. The Leopards fell to 4-7 and 1-3.
It was Mangan's second eight-point game of the season, as she had three goals and five assists in a home win over St. Joseph's. The six points by DeSimone were a single-game career high.
Carlianne McCabe, Charlotte Avallone and Kirsten Wilhelmsen each had three goals for the Leopards.
American trailed 8-4 at halftime and faced a five-point deficit after the Leopards scored in the first 52 seconds of the second half.
But the Eagles went on a six-goal streak, the first three scored by Wojciechowski, to take a 10-9 lead with 16:29 left. Hoon also had a pair of goals in that stretch.
Wilhelmsen tied the score with 14:47 left, but Mangan scored once and DeSimone tallied twice more to push the lead back to 13-10 with 9:37 to play.
McCable and Wilhelmsen scored within a 10-second span to trim the deficit to one with 7:13 remaining.
But Norris scored with 5:54 left for the Eagles, who worked the clock most of the remainder of the game. Mangan added a goal with 1:48 left to add insurance.
Freshman goalkeeper
Fiona Geier had seven saves for AU, while Anna Raymond had nine for the Leopards.
American held a 26-8 edge in shots in the second half to finish with a 39-24 advantage for the game. AU had a 20-9 edge in draw controls.
American travels to Bucknell next Saturday and will play its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, April 20 against Navy.
