WASHINGTON – In its final non-conference match of the season, the American University volleyball team visits local rival George Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
The Eagles, who have won nine straight matches, enter this week's contest with a 17-5 overall record. American earned a 3-0 non-conference victory over Bethune-Cookman on Friday, defeating the Wildcats, 25-11, 25-22, 25-14. Senior outside hitter Allison Cappellino led the Eagles with a match-high 12 kills.
Cappellino leads the Eagles for the season with 3.18 kills and 2.68 digs per set, while classmate Kristyna Lindovska adds 2.38 kills per set. Senior setter Monika Smidova averages 9.76 assists and 3.07 digs per set, along with a .344 attack percentage.
Defensively, sophomore libero Hoakalei Dawson averages a team-leading 3.64 digs per set and sophomore Erin Swartz leads the league in blocks per set with 1.27.
George Washington carries a 15-7 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Colonials earned a pair of league victories last weekend, defeating both La Salle and Duquesne in straight sets.
Junior Chidima Osuchukwu averages a team-high 3.77 kills and 1.45 blocks per set to lead GW. Freshman Kelsey Clark adds 2.76 kills per set, while senior setter Jordan Timmer averages 10.71 assists per set.
