What to Know About American
  • American is coming off a four-match road trip, beginning in Ohio with contests against ETSU, Cleveland State, and Akron.
  • After their first loss of the season to ETSU, the Eagles played one of their strongest games so far against Cleveland State. A gritty second set propelled them to a 3-0 sweep, fighting off two set points and using kills from Sophie Dufour and Prinzez Zeck to get the win. Ball control was a highlight for the Eagles, committing just five reception errors in a clean performance.
  • Quality play upfront made a difference, as the Eagles logged 12 total block assists as a team. Elise Sterling led the way with three, while Zeck and Carly Sciborski had two apiece.
  • Following a five-set defeat at the hands of Akron, AU bounced back with a commanding victory over Hampton in straight sets on Wednesday, Sep. 10. The Eagles dominated, hitting a season-high .529 as a team, along with a high in service aces with 12.
  • The freshman outsider hitter Dufour continues to make waves in her rookie campaign, earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week last week. Across the four-game stretch, she totaled 54 kills, hitting .284 and leading the Eagles in three of the four contests.
  • Head coach Ahen Kim is seeing impressive performances up and down his roster, as the Eagles lead the Patriot League in all individual categories except blocks: Hitting percentage (Sterling, .366), kills (Dufour, 110), assists (Deniz Dakak, 284), service aces (Alex Ioannou, 26), digs (Marrero, 23), and points (Dufour, 119.5).
