Box Score The American University lacrosse team suffered its fourth
consecutive loss, falling at No. 14 Loyola (Md.), 18-5, on
Wednesday night in Baltimore, Md.
"We were outgunned by one of the most athletic and skilled teams
we have faced this season," said Head Coach Emma Wallace. "We took advantage of
our time of possession and had numerous defensive stops.
Unfortunately we were not able to wrap in as many draws to maintain
control of the ball."
Loyola (10-4, 6-0) remained unbeaten in its first season in the
Patriot League and Taryn VanThof put the Greyhounds on the board in
the first minute. Olivia
Mangan answered for the Eagles less than three minutes
later but Loyola rattled off nine unanswered tallies for the 10-1
lead with 10:39 remaining in the first half.

Lugovina ended the streak with consecutive goals as
Jamie
Silverman added an assist on both scores. Molly
Hulseman closed out the scoring in the first half, finding the back
of the net with 4:40 to go to give the Greyhounds an 11-3 lead
heading into the intermission.
Emily
Maher notched the first goal of the second half for
American (4-11, 0-6) but Loyola responded once again with three
straight scores to take a 14-4 lead. Madison
Hoon slipped a shot past Taylor Caldwell on a free
position with just over 10 minutes to play. The Greyhounds scored
four more unanswered goals to close out the game for the 18-5 final
score.
Silverman had a team-high two points on a pair of assists. Four
players tallied a draw control in the loss and Lauren
Binstein, Jackie
Ferri and Olivia
McCarthy collected three ground balls apiece. Ferri
matched her career mark with 10 saves in the game.
Annie Thomas posted a team-best seven points, notching five
assists, and Marlee Paton led Loyola with five points on three
goals and two assists. Maddy Blakeman and Sydney Thomas also
completed hat tricks for the Greyhounds. VanThof registered nine
draw controls and Paton collected three ground balls. Molly Wolf
made seven saves as the starting goalkeeper.
Loyola had a 34-13 advantage in shots, 21-4 advantage in draw
controls and 15-14 edge in ground balls collected.
The Eagles continue conference play on Sunday, Apr. 13 at 1 p.m.
when it travels to Lehigh. The game will be broadcast live on the
Patriot League Network.
