Pope and Regan Post 1-2 Finish at Maryland Invitational

John Pope and Nick Regan registered a 1-2 finish in the men's 5,000 to lead the American University outdoor track teams at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday in College Park, Md.

Pope won the event with a time of 14:40.48 and Regan finished second with a personal best mark of 14:42.01. 

In the men's 1,500 meter race, Joshua Ellis and Constantine Matsakis finished second and third with times of 3:59.88 and 4:09:69, respectively. Brendan Johnson placed fifth in the 3,000 in 8:44.41 and Ian Lutz rounded out the top finishers with an eighth place finish with a time of 9:05.56.

Julienne DeVita was the highest finisher for the women's squad, placing fifth in the 1,500 meter with a mark of 4:50.81. Ali Tyburski, Julia Sullivan and Corina Velazco finished seventh, eight and ninth in the 800 meter run with times of 2:20.78, 2:23.68 and 2:24.25, respectively.

The Eagles return to action when the team travels to the Colonial Relays April 3 through 5 in Williamsburg, Va.
