Box Score The American University lacrosse team registered its second
straight win, routing local rival George Mason, 15-3, on Wednesday
afternoon at Jacobs Field.
American (4-7) held the Patriots off the board for the first 15
minutes of the game. Alex
Lugovina tallied back-to-back goals a minute apart and
Emily
Maher added an unassisted tally to put the Eagles up
3-0 just five minutes in, forcing George Mason to call an early
timeout.
American continued to roll with Olivia
Mangan and Maher trading tallies and Madison
Hoon notching her first of the day for the 7-0 lead
with 18:38 remaining. Mangan completed a hat trick on a free
position to extend the Eagles' advantage to 8-0 under two minutes
later. Katie Mascolo scored the first goal of the game for the
Patriots but American closed out the half on a 3-0 run to take a
10-1 lead into the intermission.
The Eagles carried the momentum into the second half, notching
four unanswered goals in the first 14 minutes. Becky
Meyer recorded her first collegiate goal on a free
position with 16:44 to go to give American a 14-1 advantage. Brooke
Lorber ended the Eagles' scoring streak on a free position with
11:18 remaining. Lugovina and Rachel Obergon traded free position
goals in the final 10 minutes for the 15-3 final score.
Lugovina and Mangan finished with four goals apiece and Maher
added three points on two goals and one assist. Mangan registered
three draw controls and Emily
Shields collected three ground balls for American.
Jackie
Ferri made three saves between the pipes for the
Eagles.
Lorber, Mascolo and Obergon notched a goal apiece to lead George
Mason (6-3). Mascolo and Alexa McGovern led the team with two draw
controls and Caroline Brouse collected three ground balls while
making seven saves for the Patriots.
American held a 29-18 advantage in shots, 15-8 advantage in
ground balls collected and 12-8 edge in draw controls for the
game.
The Eagles resume Patriot League play on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 1
p.m. when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell.
