Second Half Rally Propels Women's Basketball Past Colgate, 75-57

Box Score

The American University women's basketball team used a second half run to down Colgate, 75-57, in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday night.

Three players reached double-figures with Arron Zimmerman scoring a game-high 19 points. Jen Dumiak added 16 and Alexis Dobbs finished with 10 points for the Eagles. Sarah Kiely led American with six rebounds. Dumiak and Ti'Asia McGeorge posted a team-best five assists.

"I think offensively we started out the game pretty well, especially with some young kids out there being able to score a little bit in transition as well as in the half court, I thought we were very patient with getting shots," said Head Coach Megan Gebbia. "Having Alexis on the floor just kind of sparked our transition game in the second half and once we led by around four it felt like we could settle down and just move forward with the game. We had a lot of contributions from a lot of different people and it was great to see Arron in double-figures again as well as Alexis and Jen has just been outstanding the last six games. If we can continue this kind of offensive output in the next six games I think we'll end the season very well."

Colgate (5-18, 1-11) jumped out to a 7-3 lead and a triple by Zimmerman cut the Raiders' lead to one, 9-8, at 14:21. The Eagles took its first lead, 14-11, on consecutive jumpers by Geleisa George and a floater by Dumiak. Colgate retook the lead on an 8-2 run but Dumiak went 5-for-5 from the line to give American back the 21-19 advantage with 8:31 remaining in the first half.

The game was knotted up four times before the Raiders notched five straight points for a 34-29 lead with 2:36 to go. George hit a jumper and Lauren Crisler laid it in to bring the Eagles within one as McGeorge nailed a triple with 30.1 seconds to go to send the game into the intermission tied 36-all.

American (16-7, 9-3) outshot Colgate 56.0 to 44.1 percent from the floor and went 3-for-7 from beyond the arc while the Raiders were 2-for-5.

The Eagles came out of the break with a 7-3 run to take a 43-39 lead but five straight points from Missy Repoli put Colgate back on top, 44-43, at 16:07. American scored nine unanswered points and the Eagles never trailed for the remainder of the game.

Carole Harris scored the next five points for the Raiders but a 9-0 run gave American a 65-50 lead with 5:39 to play as the Raiders called a timeout. Colgate made it a 10-point game after a 5-0 run and the Eagles held the Raiders scoreless for the final 2:45 as it went on to win 75-57.

Harris led Colgate with 16 points and Repoli added 10 with a team-best six rebounds. Randyll Butler and Lauryn Kobiela dished out a team-high four assists.

American went a perfect 20-for-20 from the foul line, marking the second time this season the Eagles haven't missed a free throw in a game. American shot 50.0 percent from the floor and went 5-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Raiders shot 38.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. The Eagles held a 33-32 edge in rebounds.

American will head to Lehigh on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
