Women's Basketball Routs Loyola (Md.), 63-38; Watch Highlights

Box Score

The American University women's basketball team used a balanced effort to roll past Loyola (Md.), 63-38, on Wednesday night in Bender Arena.

Every player scored for the Eagles with Jen Dumiak reaching double-figures for the fifth straight game. The junior tallied 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and dished out a team-best five assists. Sarah Kiely led the team with eight rebounds as it held a 29-28 edge on the glass.

"I thought we started the game a little slow defensively…and offensively our whole focus this year has been can we be patient in a half court setting, especially against the zone, and I thought today we executed extremely well," said Head Coach Megan Gebbia. "I was happy we had very balanced scoring except for Jen, she has been playing really well the last three games and I'm really impressed with her turning her game up. She just seems to have more confidence and I'm really happy for her."

Dumiak hit back-to-back three's to open the scoring for American (15-7, 8-3) and Ti'Asia McGeorge added another to give the Eagles a 9-4 lead at 14:22. The Eagles tallied seven straight points for a 20-11 advantage with 7:52 to go, capped off by another McGeorge triple. American continued to roll, going on a 13-0 run for a 33-15 lead and holding the Greyhounds without a bucket from the floor for nearly six and a halfminutes. Jordan Light hit a triple for the Eagles' final points of the half and American went into the break up 36-19.

The Eagles shot 51.7 percent from the floor and were 5-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half. Loyola (5-17, 2-9) shot 50.0 percent from the field and were 1-for-4 from 3-point range.

American came out of the intermission with a 7-0 run and notched three straight buckets for a 49-21 lead at the 15:15 mark as the Greyhounds were forced to call a timeout. The Eagles continued to find ways to score as an Abigail Fogg lay-in gave American its largest lead, 51-22, with 11:20 to play.

Loyola was able to respond with six consecutive points to put the score back at 51-28 with 7:05 remaining. The teams traded baskets before four straight free throws cut the Eagles' lead to 20, 57-37, with 2:26 to play. Ari Booth hit a triple and Fogg tallied three straight points to close out the scoring for American as it went on to win, 63-38.

Nicole Krusen led Loyola with 12 points while Lauren Daugherty pulled down a team-high seven boards. Lisa Mirarchi registered six assists for the Greyhounds.
