The American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on the first day of the 2014 Patriot League Championships, at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on Wednesday. After five events, both AU squads are in seventh place.
The women's 200 medley relay team of sophomores Paris Wood and Celeste Borras and rookie swimmers Caylee Watson and Julianna Cavano opened the 2014 Championship for AU with a seventh-place performance, finishing in 1:51.18.
The Eagle men also finished seventh in the 200 medley relay as seniors Bobby Ballance and Matt Wurm along with juniors Charlie Taffet and Phil Piombino combined for a time of 1:37.08.
Junior diver Melissa Parker posted a top-10 all-time scoring dive for AU in his ninth-place performance on the three-meter board with a score of 220.3.
The final event of the first day of competition was the 800 freestyle relay which saw the AU women finish ninth while the men placed eighth.
There will be preliminary events beginning at 10:30 a.m. for each of the next three days, with finals starting at 6 p.m. each evening as the 10 men and women's teams compete for the 2014 Patriot League titles.
