Women's Basketball Downs Loyola (Md.), 52-34

The American University women's basketball team rolled past Loyola (Md.), 52-34, on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. Loyola's 34 points were the third fewest allowed by American in program history and marked the lowest output for the Greyhounds this season. 

Arron Zimmerman bested her career mark with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. She also added a team-best eight rebounds. Jen Dumiak chipped in 10 points with a team-high six assists.

American (9-5, 2-1) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes, forcing Loyola to call an early timeout. The Greyhounds got on the board at the 18:05 mark but the Eagles responded with a 13-0 run to go up 23-4 with 9:44 to go. Both teams struggled from the floor through the rest of the half and a jumper from Ari Booth sent American into the intermission with a 30-10 lead.

The Eagles shot 41.4 percent in the first, holding Loyola (3-11, 0-3) to just 4-of-25 shooting from the floor. American also went 3-of-12 from three-point range while the Greyhounds were 0-of-6.

Dumiak scored the first points of the second half and Zimmerman hit a pair of free throws for the 34-10 lead at 16:15. Loyola was held scoreless from the floor for the first seven minutes of the half, and Nneka Offodile ended the drought with 13:08 remaining. The Greyhounds continued to chip away at the Eagles' lead, using a 7-2 run to put the score at 40-21 with 8:35 to play. 

Zimmerman provided a spark for American's offense, hitting three straight buckets, and Shaquilla Curtis laid one in for the Eagles' largest lead, 50-22, with 3:06 to play. Loyola was able to bounce back, closing out the game on a 12-2 run for the 52-34 final score.

American shot 38.2 percent from the floor for the game and was 3-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Greyhounds shot 20.4 percent from the field and went 2-of-13 from three-point range. Both teams registered 42 rebounds. 

Lisa Mirarchi finished with 11 points for Loyola while Jeneh Perry pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Eagles return to Bender Arena on Saturday, January 11 when it hosts Colgate at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
