Leininger Sets Program Record at Colonial Relays

Mark Leininger broke the all-time program record in the 10,000 meter run to lead the American University outdoor track teams at the Colonial Relays on Friday and Saturday in Williamsburg, Va. 

Leininger registered an IC4A time of 29:30.97 to place second in the event and lead a field of four Eagles' runners. The time bested the previous program record of 29:42.02 set by Pat MacAdie in 2005.

Mark Allen and John Pope also posted IC4A times in the 10,000 meter run and set the third and fourth-fastest times at American. Allen crossed the line in third in 29:45.23 while Pope finished fourth in 29:49.62. Tom Woermer came in 11th in the event. 

Ali Tyburski and Julia Sullivan had a strong day representing the women's team at the Relays. Tyburski recorded the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 1,500 meter run with a personal-best 4:35.06 to place 16th. Sullivan finished 25th with the 10th-fastest mark at American (4:39.25).

The Eagles next compete at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Games on April 13-14 in Lewisburg, Pa.
