Box Score Seven players found the back of the net for the American University lacrosse team in Saturday's contest at Old Dominion, but it was not enough as the Eagles fell, 15-11.
Kimberly Collins led American (0-6) with four goals, also adding one assist, while Emily Maher added two goals in the loss. Alex Lugovina collected four ground balls with Maher posting five draw controls. Teal Harrison recorded 13 saves.
Samantha Marshall opened the scoring in the game with a tally just 58 seconds in and Maher gave American the 2-1 advantage before a three-goal run by the Monarchs gave them the 4-2 lead. Olivia Mangan scored her third goal of the year to make it a one-goal game but Old Dominion closed out the half with back-to-back scores for the 6-3 advantage.
Old Dominion (2-4) found the back of the net first in the second half for the 7-3 lead. Jessica Wojciechowski notched her first goal of the year followed by Collins's first score of the day to cut American's deficit to two. The Monarchs used a 4-1 run to go up by five with 5:11 to play. A 3-0 run by the Eagles made it a two-goal game, 13-11, with 1:45 left to go, but Old Dominion secured the win with consecutive tallies in the final minute for the 15-11 win.
Christina Rea led the Monarchs with five goals in the contest.
Old Dominion held a 23-15 edge in ground balls collected. American held the 32-31 edge in shots with a 18-10 advantage in draw controls.
The Eagles will host back-to-back games at Jacobs Field on Wednesday, March 13 at 12 p.m. against Coastal Carolina. American opens Patriot League play on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. against Holy Cross. Both games will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
