The American University lacrosse team scored six straight goals
in the second half as it rolled to its fifth straight win, 11-6,
over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field.
American (5-6, 3-0) created a first place tie in the conference
with Navy with the win. Emily
Maher led the Eagles with four points on three goals
and one assist while Kimberly
Collins and Olivia
Mangan each added three points on one score and two
assists. Mangan registered three draw controls and Maher collected
a team-best three ground balls. Teal
Harrison posted 10 saves between the pipes.
The Eagles struck first, with Jordan
Harrington finding the back of the net off the dish
from Collins at the 27:13 mark. Bucknell (1-10, 0-4) evened it up
on a free position goal from Katelyn Miller before American
answered with consecutive scores for the 3-1 advantage. The Bison
took a 5-3 lead on a 4-0 run with 5:14 left in the first half but
the Eagles added two more to knot it up at 5-5 heading into the
break.
Maher put American back on top on an unassisted tally at the
22:11 mark to spark a 6-0 run by the Eagles. Nicole
Lombardo closed out the run with 57 seconds remaining
in regulation with Mangan adding the assist. Miller registered the
final goal of the game, scoring off a free position shot with 32
seconds to play for the 11-6 final score.
Miller led the Bison with the hat trick and Sam Rickels and
Adrienne Wendling had three draw controls apiece. Caroline O'Neill
made four saves for Bucknell.
American's win streak is its longest since 2007.
The Eagles will look to extend its win streak on Tuesday, April
2 at 4 p.m. when it hosts No. 9 Virginia. The game will be
broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
