Box Score The American University lacrosse team overcame a four-goal deficit, using a 7-1 run in the second half to pick up its third straight win, 10-9, at Colgate on Saturday afternoon.
Colgate (5-5, 2-1) opened the game on a 3-0 run before Alex Lugovina and Jordan Harrington found the back of the net for the Eagles to make it a one-goal game. The Raiders closed out the half with three straight tallies again, heading into the break up 7-3.
American (3-6, 2-0) responded instantly in the second half, with a goal from Nicole Lombardo 32 seconds in sparking a 3-0 run to make it a one-goal game, 7-6. Colgate ended the streak off a score from Emily Peebles, but the Eagles scored four unanswered to take the 10-8 lead with 12:03 remaining. The Raiders were unable to come back, with Peebles scoring the final goal of the game with one second remaining for the 10-9 final score.
Colgate finished the game outshooting American, 32-19, as Teal Harrison came up with 15 saves between the pipes for the Eagles. The Raiders held a 14-6 advantage in draw controls and collected 16 ground balls, compared to nine for American.
Kimberly Collins led the Eagles with the hat trick with Lugovina and Samantha Marshall notching two scores apiece. Harrington tallied three points off one goal and two assists. Lugovina and Marshall led the team with two draw controls.
American will look to continue its winning streak when it opens a three-game homestand against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m. The Eagles host Bucknell on Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. for the 2013 Lax Blowout as they look to remain undefeated in the Patriot League.
