The American University women's basketball team remained
undefeated in Bender Arena, registering its third straight win with
a 47-41 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon.

Dobbs was the lone player to reach double-figures in
the game, finishing with 17 points. Sarah
Kiely led American with 10 rebounds as the Eagles held
a 38-29 edge on the glass. Jen Dumiak
dished out four assists in the win.
"What I told the team in the locker room is that if you can win
and play ugly that's the sign of a great team and we're moving in
that direction right now," said Head Coach Megan Gebbia. "We still need to close
out games a little bit better and we're working on that."
Dobbs completed a three-point play for American (6-2) to give it
an 11-7 advantage at 14:30 but the Dragons answered with a 7-2 run
to take a 16-15 lead with 9:44 to play. A Dobbs triple sparked a
10-2 run for the Eagles and Arron
Zimmerman added the final bucket of the half to send
American into the intermission up 27-20.
The Eagles outshot Drexel (2-5) 44.0 to 37.5 percent in the
first half and 37.5 percent to 20.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Dobbs tallied 13 of her 17 points in the first half on 5-of-7
shooting from the floor.
The Dragons rallied at the start of the second half, taking a
33-21 lead on a 13-2 run with 14:08 to play. A pair of free throws
from Dobbs set off another 13-0 run for a 44-33 American advantage
as it held Drexel without a bucket for over nine minutes.
Fiona Flanagan hit a pair of free throws to end the Dragons'
scoreless drought and Drexel was able to cut the Eagles' lead to
44-39 on a steal and lay-in by Tory Thierolf with 2:29 remaining.
American was able to go 3-of-5 from the line in the final two
minutes as it held on to win 47-41.
The Eagles finished the day shooting 40.5 percent from the field
and were 3-of-13 from three-point range. The Dragons shot 30.9
percent from the floor as a team and went 4-for-21 from beyond the
arc.
Sarah Curran led Drexel with nine points and Meghan Creighton
and Rachel Pearson notched eight apiece. Flanagan pulled down a
game-high 12 rebounds, adding three assists and three
steals.
American will take a week off before returning to Bender Arena
on Monday, December 16 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Mary's.
The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
