Box Score

The American University women's basketball team remained undefeated in Bender Arena, registering its third straight win with a 47-41 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon.

Alexis Dobbs was the lone player to reach double-figures in the game, finishing with 17 points. Sarah Kiely led American with 10 rebounds as the Eagles held a 38-29 edge on the glass. Jen Dumiak dished out four assists in the win.

"What I told the team in the locker room is that if you can win and play ugly that's the sign of a great team and we're moving in that direction right now," said Head Coach Megan Gebbia. "We still need to close out games a little bit better and we're working on that."

Dobbs completed a three-point play for American (6-2) to give it an 11-7 advantage at 14:30 but the Dragons answered with a 7-2 run to take a 16-15 lead with 9:44 to play. A Dobbs triple sparked a 10-2 run for the Eagles and Arron Zimmerman added the final bucket of the half to send American into the intermission up 27-20.

The Eagles outshot Drexel (2-5) 44.0 to 37.5 percent in the first half and 37.5 percent to 20.0 percent from beyond the arc. Dobbs tallied 13 of her 17 points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor.

The Dragons rallied at the start of the second half, taking a 33-21 lead on a 13-2 run with 14:08 to play. A pair of free throws from Dobbs set off another 13-0 run for a 44-33 American advantage as it held Drexel without a bucket for over nine minutes.

Fiona Flanagan hit a pair of free throws to end the Dragons' scoreless drought and Drexel was able to cut the Eagles' lead to 44-39 on a steal and lay-in by Tory Thierolf with 2:29 remaining. American was able to go 3-of-5 from the line in the final two minutes as it held on to win 47-41.

The Eagles finished the day shooting 40.5 percent from the field and were 3-of-13 from three-point range. The Dragons shot 30.9 percent from the floor as a team and went 4-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Sarah Curran led Drexel with nine points and Meghan Creighton and Rachel Pearson notched eight apiece. Flanagan pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, adding three assists and three steals.

American will take a week off before returning to Bender Arena on Monday, December 16 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Mary's. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
