Women's Soccer Faces Virginia Commonwealth, Loyola (Md.)

The American University women's soccer team hosts a pair of home games this weekend against Virginia Commonwealth on Friday, September 7 at 2 p.m. and Loyola (Md.) on Sunday, September 9 at 12 p.m. Sunday's match will also mark women's soccer's annual "Phil Reeves" event.

American (1-4-1) dropped both of its matches last weekend to Liberty, 2-0, and No. 13 Virginia Tech, 3-0. Charlene Belanger recorded six saves against the Hokies while Klare Lazor started in goal against the Lady Flames, tallying one save.

Jasmine Mohandesi leads the Eagles with three goals on the year while fellow senior Michelle Montilio has added four points on one goal and two assists. Freshman Kelly Donovan also has a goal for the Eagles this season with sophomore Nicole Paviglionite registering two assists. Belanger has tallied 22 saves in five starts for American.

Virginia Commonwealth is 1-2-2 this season and recorded a 1-1 draw in its last game against Villanova. The Rams tied the game in the 73rd minute, with sophomore Cristin Granados scoring off the cross from junior Jessie Krasko. Granados has a team-high two goals on the year with one assist. Sophomore Maren Johansen and senior Breiana White have recorded three points, posting one goal and one assist each this season. Senior Kristin Carden and redshirt freshman Emma Kruse have split the time in goal this season. Carden has 10 saves in two starts with Kruse recording five saves in three starts, respectively.

American and the Rams are 6-6 in the all-time series. The Eagles won the last meeting between the two teams, 2-1, in the 2004 season.

Loyola (Md.) is 1-1-2 on the year, drawing with Towson, 1-1, in its last contest. Senior Nichole Schiro had the lone tally for the Greyhounds, scoring with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game. Schiro has a team-high two goals this season while senior Kelsey Rene and sophomore Jessica Van Dyke have each added one. Junior Didi Haracic has started all four games in goal for the Greyhounds, tallying 26 saves.

American is 2-5-2 all-time against Loyola (Md.), with the Greyhounds picking up a 1-0 victory in last season's meeting. The Eagles' last win in the series came in 2003.

Sunday's match against Loyola (Md.) marks women's soccer annual "Phil Reeves" match. AU students will be treated to a free barbecue courtesy of the AU Student Government, free Robeks smoothies and free Coca-Cola products prior to the match.

Both games will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV.
