Box Score The American University lacrosse team came back within one after
facing a five-goal deficit but couldn't hold off a UMBC rally as it
dropped its third straight contest, 13-11, on Tuesday night.

Burton led the Eagles with the hat trick in the game

Stankiewicz each added two. Emily
Maher broke the single season draw control record at
American in the game by tallying a team-high six to put her season
total at 57, surpassing the record set by Gina Riitano in 2003.
American (7-8, 3-3) faced a two-goal deficit early before
Marshall found the back of the net with the assist from E. Maher.
UMBC added one more but the Eagles went on a 4-0 run for the 5-3
lead at 10:05 with two goals from Burton and one apiece from
Collins and Marshall. UMBC ended the half with a 3-0 run to take
the one-goal, 6-5, lead into the intermission.
UMBC (7-7, 3-2) tallied four straight goals to open the second
half before E. Maher ended the run on an unassisted goal at 17:15
for the 10-6 UMBC lead. The Eagles continued to erase the deficit
by adding a tally from Stankiewicz with 14:21
to play.
The Eagles recorded three consecutive goals to put UMBC's lead
at 11-10 with 10:45 remaining. UMBC answered with back-to-back
goals for the 13-10 lead with 3:56 left to play. Burton tallied a
goal with six seconds remaining but time expired for the 13-11
final score.
Lindsay Cox led the Retrievers with four goals while Abby Wilson
added a hat trick.
American held a 15-11 advantage in draw controls in the game
with a 14-12 advantage in ground balls collected.
American will close out the regular season when it travels to
No. 12 Ohio State on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
