Box Score

The American University women's basketball team went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds to help secure its third straight win, 61-53, over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday night.

Alexis Dobbs and Jen Dumiak led the Eagles with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Dobbs went 4-for-7 from three-point range while Dumiak added two treys. Michelle Holmes led the team with 10 rebounds, while Dobbs dished out five assists.

"Going into the game we talked about the importance of rebounding and we did a nice job of getting on the glass tonight," said Head Coach Matt Corkery. "Our offensive rebounding in the second half was a big factor in closing out the game. We had great play off the bench in the first half as well. It's a good road win after taking a break for final exams."

American (5-4) took an early 9-4 lead on three consecutive triples from Dobbs, Ti'Asia McGeorge and Dumiak before the Hawks used a 9-1 run to take a 13-11 lead with 8:30 to play. The Eagles responded with a 12-2 run, capped off by back-to-back buckets from Geleisa George. Maryland-Eastern Shore closed out the half with eight unanswered points, taking a 26-25 lead into the break.

The Eagles shot 32.0 percent from the field in the first half as the Hawks went 10-of-29 from the floor. Both teams shot 50.0 percent from the charity stripe in the first.

Karona Roach cut it to a two-point game, sinking both free throws to put the score at 42-40 before Dobbs drilled in her fourth trey with 9:27 remaining.

A jumper from Taylor Thompson brought Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-6) within one, 48-47, but Dumiak sunk a three to give the Eagles back the four-point advantage with 5:54 remaining. American closed out the game from the foul line, sinking 9-of-12 shots from the charity stripe to pick up the 61-53 win.

Roach and Shawnee Sweeney led Maryland-Eastern Shore with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Alexis Udoji registered a game-high eight rebounds with three blocks. The Hawks shot 34.5 percent from the field but hit just two three-pointers, going 56.5 percent from the foul line.
