The Eagles (1-1) picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday with a 17-8 victory against George Washington. Sophomore Kimberly Collins led all scorers with five goals, while Chiara Speziale, Emily Stankiewicz and Bernadette Maher notched three apiece. Junior goalkeeper Kaska Komosinski also had a stellar performance, recording seven saves and anchoring an American defense that allowed only eight goals.
Maher and Collins each have five goals for American so far this season. Stankiewicz leads the team in both caused turnovers (5) and draw controls (6), while Emma Larkin has collected five ground balls. Komosinski has a 12.06 goals against average and .273 save percentage in her two games played.
UMBC is also 1-1 on the year after falling to No. 17 Florida 16-6 on Wednesday. Junior Alicia Krause and senior Erika Braerman lead the Retrievers with six goals apiece, while starting goalkeeper Kendall Mason sports a 9.13 gaa.
American is looking for its first victory against UMBC since 2003. The Eagles have lost six straight against the Retrievers, three of which have come by only one goal.
