Indoor Track to Compete in GMU Patriot Games

The American University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete in the George Mason Patriot Games on Saturday, January 29.

The Eagles are coming off a strong showing at the Maryland Invitational last weekend, posting four IC4A qualifying times and one ECAC qualifying time. Senior Colin Eustis led a pack of American men that dominated the 5000 meter run, winning the race with a personal best time of 14:44.11. Josh Olsen crossed the finish line only two seconds later to join Eustis as an IC4A qualifier as five different Eagles placed in the top six.

On the women's side, senior Erin Koch registered the fourth-fasted time in program history by finishing the mile in 4:58.20. Koch's time was good for second place overall and surpassed the ECAC qualification requirement. Octavia Rinehardt took third in the event with a time of 5:06.60, the eighth-fastest time in program history, while Julia Sullivan placed ninth.

The Eagles will hope to duplicate the strong showing they had at last year's Patriot Games. The men's team swept the podium in both the mile and 1000 meter run while Koch captured the 1000 meter title on the women's side. As a whole, the teams combined for eight all-time top 10 marks.
