Box Score The American University women's lacrosse team visited
Maryland-Baltimore Country (UMBC) on Wednesday afternoon, and fell
by a final score of 19-2.
UMBC (5-3) opened the game with the first three goals before Lauren Schoenberger registered
her 11th goal of the season for American (2-6) to cut the deficit
to two, 3-1, with 21:43 to go in the first half. Emily Burton was credited with assist.
The Retrievers controlled play for the rest of the first half,
running off eight straight goals to take an 11-1 advantage in
halftime.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the second half was much of the
same, as UMBC began the final 30 minutes with four more goals to
race out to a 15-1 lead with 14:47 to play. Amanda Makoid converted AU's
lone second half goal at the 13:48 mark. UMBC added four more goals
down the stretch to come away with the 19-2 home victory.
Emily Coady led UMBC with a game-high five points on three goals
and two assists, while Amanda Pappas registered four goals. Erika
Braerman also had two goals and two assists for the Retrievers.
For the Eagles, Makoid added three draw controls in addition to
her goal. Kelsey Beck and goalkeeper Frankie Solomon recorded two
groundballs apiece to lead AU. Solomon also registered nine saves
in 39-plus minutes in goal. Kaska Komosinski got the start between
the pipes for the Eagles, and she made three saves in her 20-plus
minutes of action.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they
travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Patriot League foe Bucknell.
