The American University wrestling team will take to the mat
against Bucknell on Saturday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. in
Lewisburg, Pa., in the team's final dual meet of the season.
American will enter the weekend at 7-9 after three losses last
week against #9 Maryland, #24 Rutgers and #25 Old Dominion. Despite
the losses, American got strong performances from #4 Mike
Cannon and #10 Kyle
Borshoff, as the pair recorded three victories apiece
The Eagles starting lineup includes seven student-athletes who
have winning records for the season and four who are currently
featured in the IntermatWrestle.com national rankings. Both
Cannon and junior Steve
Fittery are ranked #4 in their respective weight
class, headlining a solid American lineup. Cannon improved to 21-1
on the year at 184 lbs. last week and has now won each of his last
ten bouts. Fittery is 26-1 this season at 157 lbs. and is
riding a 20-match win streak.
American's starting lineup also features K. Borshoff, who is
20-2 on the season and is currently ranked #10 at 149 lbs., and Jasen
Borshoff, ranked #18 at 125 lbs, who is 18-6 on the
season. Jordan
Lipp is 18-14 at 141 lbs. and the combination of Mingo
Grant and Blake
Herrin at heavyweight have posted records of 14-7 and
11-8, respectively.
Bucknell is 11-6 in dual meets this season and most recently
defeated George Mason, 28-12, for their third straight win.
Four Bison appeared in this week's IntermatWrestle.com rankings,
led by Kevin LaValley who is ranked #7 at 149 lbs. with a record of
34-5. Also in the rankings are #10 Andy Rendos (23-4) at 165
lbs., #15 Shane Riccio (29-8) at 174lbs. and #17 Dave Marble
(24-7) at 133 lbs.
