Four Eagles were victorious Monday night but it was not enough as the American University wrestling team fell at #25 Old Dominion, 20-15. Seniors #4 Mike Cannon and #11 Kyle Borshoff remained undefeated in the new year and extended their winning streaks to 10 matches and 11 matches, respectively.

Old Dominion struck first as #7 James Nicholson defeated #16 Jasen Borshoff at 125 lbs., 4-3. Trailing 3-1 late in the third period, J. Borshoff scored a reversal to even the score at three. Nicholson had accrued nearly two minutes of riding time advantage, however, and held J. Borshoff off in the closing seconds to pick up the victory. The Monarchs also picked up a major decision at 133 lbs. and led 7-0 after two bouts.

Jordan Lipp picked up American's first win of the evening at 141 lbs., taking a 6-5 decision over Craig Wilson to move the team scores to 7-3. K. Borshoff followed Lipp with a second-period fall, his fourth of the season, putting the Eagles out in front, 9-7.

American's lead would not hold, however, as Old Dominion came back to win each of the next three matches including one bonus-point victory. After 174 lbs., American trailed the Monarchs 17-9.

Cannon pulled the Eagles to within striking distance, 17-12, as he recorded a 9-3 decision over Joe Budi at 184 lbs. The Monarchs would put the match away with a decision at 197 lbs. though, moving the team scores to 20-12.

Blake Herrin finished the night off with a 7-3 decision over Grant Chapman at heavyweight, bringing the final tally to 20-15 in favor of Old Dominion.

Cannon's victory improved his overall record to 21-1 on the year and extended his current win streak to 10 matches. K. Borshoff, meanwhile, picked up his fourth fall of the year to extend his winning streak to 11 matches. The senior is now 20-2 on the year and has reached 20 wins in each of the last three years.

Lipp improved to 18-14 overall while Herrin now stands at 11-8.

American will return to the mats on Saturday, February 20, when it visits Bucknell at 2:00 p.m. for the team's final dual meet of the year.
