Cannon Moves To Second Place on Career Wins List, Wrestling Defeats Binghamton, 21-16

The American University wrestling team picked up its fifth straight win on Thursday with at 21-16 victory at Binghamton. #4 Mike Cannon earned a major decision at 184 lbs. and is now tied for second place on American's career wins list.

The Eagles rattled off five straight victories to open the dual, bookended by major decisions from #17 Jasen Borshoff and #3 Steve Fittery. J. Borshoff's win came by a score of 17-6 over Dan Riggi at 125 lbs. while Fittery's was by a score of 10-0 over Justin Lister at 157 lbs. #12 Kyle Borshoff won by decision over Donnie Vinson at 149 lbs., 6-2.

Binghamton picked up a pair of victories at 165 lbs. and 174 lbs., bringing the team scores to 17-10 in favor of American. Cannon took to the mat next at 184 lbs. and earned a 22-8 major decision over Matt Berretta, all but sealing the victory for the Eagles. Binghamton also won the 197 lbs. and heavyweight bouts, moving the final team scores to 21-16.

Cannon's victory improved his overall record to 18-1 on the year and his career record to 110-18. He is now tied with 2007 NCAA National Champion Josh Glenn, '08, for second place on American's career wins list.

K. Borshoff is now 17-2 this season and 90-33 for his career, putting him one win shy of tying Bret Ruth, '98, and Mark Snuffin, '89, for fifth all-time.

Fittery improved to 25-1 and is riding a 19-match win streak. J. Borshoff moved to 17-4 on the season while Thomas Williams's overall record now stands at 16-9. Thursday night's victory improved the Eagles dual meet record to 7-6 and was the team's fifth straight win.

American will return to action on Sunday, February 7, with a pair of dual meets at George Mason. The Eagles will first take to the mat at 11:00 a.m. against the host Patriots and will return at 2:00 p.m. to face UNC Greensboro.
