Video Highlights: Wrestling Scores Three Falls in 27-18 Win Over Ohio

The American University wrestling team used three falls on Sunday to defeat Ohio in Bender Arena, 27-18. #3 Steve Fittery, #4 Mike Cannon and #12 Kyle Borshoff each pinned their opponent as the Eagles won six of 10 weight classes.

#18 Jasen Borshoff began the afternoon at 125 lbs. with a 4-1 decision over Gabe Ramos. J. Borshoff got on the board with a takedown in the first period and scored an escape in the third before riding time advantage gave him the final margin. Thomas Williams had similar success at 133 lbs., taking a 5-4 decision over Quentin Keyes to give American a 6-0 team advantage.

Ohio got on the board with a decision at 141 lbs. before back-to-back falls at 149 lbs. and 157 lbs. gave the Eagles a 15 point cushion, 18-3. K. Borshoff held an 8-2 lead over Josh Speelman in the third period and was able to get the pin at the 6:59 mark, just before time expired. Fittery took control over Clay Tucker with a nearfall in the first period and led 8-3 heading into the second. Fittery was then able to get in on a single leg midway through the frame to get the fall at the 4:04 mark.

Ohio won its second bout with a fall at 165 lbs., moving the team scores to 18-9 and keeping the Bearcats alive. Phillip Barreiro closed the door on Ohio however with a 4-2 decision at 174 lbs. over Steve Wilson, pushing the score to 21-9.

Cannon recorded the fastest fall of the day at 184 lbs., pinning Brian Discoll in just 1:46. Cannon shot in on a single leg off the opening whistle before turning Discoll midway through the period to score the fall.

Ohio tacked on a fall and decision at 197 lbs. and heavyweight, respectively, but to no avail as the Eagles walked away with the 27-18 victory.

Fittery has improved to 23-1 on the year and owns a 17-match winning streak. Cannon is now 16-1 this season with six falls, two tech-falls and six major decisions. K. Borshoff is 15-2 with six straight wins while J. Borshoff improves to 15-4.

American will return to the mats in Bender Arena on Tuesday, January 26, at 6:00 p.m. against Drexel in the team's annual 'Bender Takedown' event. Fans unable to attend the match in person can catch all of the action live on the Web via a subscription to Eagles Vision TV.
