PHILADELPHIA - American University's Mike Cannon, Kyle Borshoff and Andrew Silber each advanced to the semifinal round of the 105th EIWA Championships on Saturday at the Palestra. Cannon earned two victories by major decision while K. Borshoff and Silber picked up falls to help them advance. American is in sixth place overall after Day One of competition and has a total of eight wrestlers who will compete on Day Two.

Cannon dominated both of his opponents on Saturday as the No. 1 seed at 174 lbs., earning major decisions of 14-4 and 17-7. In his first match of the day Cannon accumulated more than five minute of riding time over Princeton's Travis Erdman en route to the victory. Cannon did nearly the same against eighth-seeded Michael Whale from Rutgers in his second match, picking up 4:53 of riding time in the win. Cannon will now face Navy's Luke Rebertus in the semifinal round tomorrow morning.

K. Borshoff, seeded fifth at 149 lbs., earned his semifinal appearance with a second period fall and a 2-1 overtime win. K. Borshoff accumulated 2:49 of riding time over Dave Foxen of Brown in the first period of his first match before turning Foxen in the second period for the fall at 3:46. In his second match K. Borshoff took a 1-1 tie into tiebreaks against the fourth seed Cesar Grajales from Penn. K. Borshoff rode Grajales out in the first tiebreak and escaped in the second to score the 2-1 win. K. Borshoff will meet the No. 1 seed, Army's Matt Kyler, tomorrow in the semifinals.

197 lbs. Silber earned one of the fastest falls of the day at 0:32 over Franklin and Marshall's Colin Ely. Silber, the fifth seed, returned to the mat against fourth-seeded Philip Neese from Navy and fought back from an early deficit to claim the victory. Silber found himself trailing 5-4 to begin the third period but scored an escape midway through to even the score. Silber then scored on a takedown attempt and built his riding time up over one-minute to defeat Neese, 8-5.

Five other Eagles will compete on Day Two of the EIWA Championships. 133-pounder Jasen Borshoff, 141-pounder Matt Mariacher, 157-pounder Patcik Graham and 165-pounder Christopher Stout each won two matches on Saturday to move on to Sunday. 125-pounder Thomas Williams was given a first-round bye and won one match Saturday to advance.
