WASHINGTON - The American University wrestling team went 2-1 on Sunday at the Indiana Duals defeating Clarion, 21-18, and Gardner-Webb, 37-9, while losing to Indiana, 23-11. No. 3 Mike Cannon and No. 12 Kyle Borshoff each went a perfect 3-0 on the day while five other Eagles won two of three matches.

American pulled out a 21-18 victory over Clarion in the team's first dual of the day. Thomas Williams lost the first bout of the dual at 125 lbs. to No. 20 Jay Ivanco, 3-0, but a 5-3 decision in favor of Jasen Borshoff at 133 lbs. evened the team scores. American fell behind again at 141 lbs. as Matt Mariacher was pinned at the 6:59 mark. K. Borshoff took a 10-3 decision at 149 lbs. but Patrick Graham lost the next bout at 157 lbs. in overtime, 3-1, to regain a six point lead for Clarion. After Christopher Stout earned a 7-3 decision at 165 lbs. the Eagles took their first lead of the match on a Cannon pinfall at the 2:21 mark at 174 lbs. Clarion regained the lead as Anthony Fuschino was pinned at 1:29 at 184 lbs. American needed a victory to stay alive in the match and received just that from Andrew Silber as he earned an 8-6 decision at 197 lbs. to tie the team scores. Quinton Pruett sealed the victory for AU in the heavyweight bout with a 4-2 decision.

American was then defeated by Indiana in the team's second dual of the day, 23-11. Mariacher and Cannon each earned decisions over ranked Hoosiers and the Eagles also received victories from K. Borshoff and Pruett but it was not enough as Indiana took six of the 10 weight classes.

In AU's final dual the Eagles ran away with a 37-9 victory over Gardner-Webb. American won each of the first seven weights, beginning with a 9-0 major decision win for Williams at 125 lbs. J. Borshoff then earned a 26-11 tech-fall at 133 lbs. and Mariacher took a 14-5 major decision at 141 lbs. 149-pounder K. Borshoff won his third straight match of the day by fall at 1:14 and Graham earned his first victory of the day with a 10-3 decision at 157 lbs. Stout took his second victory with a 20-8 major decision at 165 lbs. before Cannon rounded out his perfect day at 174 lbs. with a 26-11 tech-fall. American's first setback of the dual came at 184 lbs. as Fuschino lost a 5-0 decision. Silber took an injury forfeit at 197 lbs. before Pruett lost by fall in the final bout of the day.

American will return home next Sunday, Jan. 25, against EIWA foe Columbia at 1 p.m. The dual will be host to AU's second annual Bender Takedown event. Tickets to the match are still available and can be purchased online by clicking here or over the phone by calling (202) 885-TIXX.
