ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Pam Stanfield
scored a career-high 16 points to pace American University to a
59-52 Patriot League win over Navy in women's basketball action on
Wednesday at Alumni Hall. American improves to 9-12, 3-3 PL, while
Navy falls to 4-17, 0-6 PL.
Navy jumped out to a 10-0 run to start the game, leaving AU with
a lot of catching up to do. Pam Stanfield and

Jackson scored the Eagles' first 12 points of the game with
Jackson hitting her second three-point basket of the game at 10:42
to cut the Navy lead to 18-12. AU began driving hard to the hoop,
putting the Mids in foul trouble and the Eagles used the line to
chip away at the deficit, scoring seven straight points from the
charity stripe.

N'Garsanet finished a conventional three-point play and Michelle Kirk
hit a jumper on the ensuing possession to tie the game, 24-24, with
3:16 to play in the half. Ohemaa Nyanin gave
the Eagles their first lead of the game with a minute left, hitting
the backside of a pair of free throws. Emily Cordle hit a basket on
the final possession as time expired to give Navy a one point,
26-25 lead at the intermission.
A Stanfield three at 14:08 as the shot clock expired, followed
by six consecutive N'Garsanet points, gave AU a 41-34 lead with
just under 11 minutes left in the game. K.C. Gordon pulled Navy
within three with six minutes left, when Liz Hayes connected on
her first field goals of the night, both from outside the arc, to
extend the Eagle lead to 49-40. The Mids could only get within four
points the rest of the way out as AU sealed the victory down the
stretch on free throws, claiming the 59-52 win.
N'Garsanet led the AU offense, scoring 18 points and grabbing a
team-high eight rebounds. Stanfield finished with 16 points and
Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers, tallying 12.
Cassie Consedine scored 18 points for Navy and picked up eight
boards. Angela Myers dished out seven assists and grabbed five
boards for the Mids.
AU will continue the PL portion of its schedule on Saturday,
when they host Lafayette at 2 p.m. for "Phil Bender" day.
