Box Score
Philadelphia, Pa. - The American University
women's basketball team could not overcome the hot first half
shooting of Drexel Monday afternoon and lost its fourth game in a
row, 75-52. Liz
Hayes and Stephanie
N'Garsanet each scored 14 for the Eagles and Talicia Jackson
added 11.
AU hit 43.5 percent (10-23) of its shots from the floor and 50.0
percent (3-6) of its shots from behind the arc in the first half,
but nine offensive rebounds by the Dragons which led to 13
second-chance points helped DU to pull away on the scoreboard. The
offensive boards combined with six of 13 shooting from three-point
range opened a lead for Drexel which reached as many as 18 points
late in the half and was 17 heading into the locker room, 45-25.
The Eagles, who entering the game had averaged nearly 22
attempts each game from the charity stripe, reached the line just
six times in the first half on three DU fouls with all six attempts
coming from Stephanie
N'Garsanet. In its pervious three games, AU had also averaged
20 shots from three-point range but was limited to just six
attempts in the period.
American was unable make up any significant ground on Drexel
early in the second half as each quality shot that the team earned
seemed to rim out of the basket and the Dragons continued their hot
shooting. Drexel scored on 13 of 27 shots in the half and was five
of nine from three. The Eagles found themselves at the opposite end
of the shooting spectrum as they connected on just seven of 24
attempts and were three of 11 from behind the arc. Drexel's lead
slowly increased after the eight-minute timeout and the game ended
with the Dragons ahead by 23.
Hayes and N'Garsanet each scored 14 points for AU while Talicia Jackson
added 11 points of her own. Hayes also led the Eagles with three
assists and N'Garsanet grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
The Dragons were led by Narissa Suber who scored all 18 of her
points from behind the arc. Gabriela Marginean and Nicole Hester
also notched double-digit points with 16 and 15, respectively.
The Eagles will have a week layover before taking on UMES in
their next game on Jan. 8, at 7 p.m., inside of Bender Arena.
