The American University wrestling team sits in 13th place after the first of four sessions in the 45th annual Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern University.

Senior Josh Glenn is still alive after two rounds in the 197 lbs. championship. The top-seeded Glenn defeated AJ Hunte of Pitt by tech fall at 4:37. He will go on to face eighth-seeded Andrew Anderson of Northern Iowa, who defeated John Schoen of Northwestern by forfeit, in the next round.

Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Mike Cannon made it to the third round before being defeated by Northwestern's Dominic Marella, 10-7. Cannon now faces the winner of a match between top-seeded Matt Lackey of the Illinois Wrestling Club and Ethan Headlee of Pitt.

In the 157 lbs. championship, Christ Stout also advanced to the third round, defeating Seth Pugh of Northern Iowa and Brett Hakeman of the Peacock Wrestling Club before being tech-falled by second-seeded Cyler Sanderson of Iowa State. Stout will face the winner of a match between Harvard's Bobby Latessa and Northwestern's Kyle Bertin.

At 141, American's Kyle Borshoff fell just short in the third round, 7-4, to fourth-seeded Eric Kruger of Central Michigan. Borshoff will face the winner of a match between Pitt's Drew Headlee and Rhode Island's Michael Bonora.

Matt Mariacher also came close in the third round, falling by a score of 4-2 to second-seeded Jim Kennedy of Illinois. He could face either David Gillespie of Air Force or his own teammate, Nick Kilstein, in the next round.

Overall, American has 21 points, just 4.5 points out of the top-10 in team standings. Iowa is in first with 50 points, as all nine of its wrestlers are still alive in the championship brackets.
