BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time this season,
Bella Marrero has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. The junior libero racked up 47 digs this weekend to help the Eagles to a 2-0 showing, including a career-high 29 in a victory over Lehigh on Friday night.
Marrero was sensational against the Mountain Hawks, covering ground on several quality swings from Lehigh throughout a grueling five-set match. She added two aces to her night, and committed just one reception error.
The reigning Patriot League Libero of the Year followed Friday's performance with 18 digs in just three sets against Lafayette, bringing her average to 5.88 per frame on the weekend. She contributed 12 assists through the two matches as well, bringing her total to 38 on the year.
Marrero currently sits at third in the PL in digs with 217, averaging 4.34 per set. She has logged 20 or more digs four times so far this season.
The Eagles are back in action this weekend at home, hosting Loyola Maryland on Saturday Oct. 3 at 4 p.m., and Navy on Sunday at 2 p.m.
