Wrestling Returns to Action Against Morgan State on Sunday

WASHINGTON - After a two week break in its dual schedule, the American University wrestling team is back on the mat on Sunday against Morgan State for an EIWA dual.

Parking Information

  • AU is 2-0 all-time against Morgan State, defeating the Bears 30-15 last year in Baltimore. 
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles have a chance to right the ship at home, coming off losses to Army and Navy. AU split the dual against Army with five victories, but were beaten by bonus points to fall 22-17. 
  • Maximilian Leete had American's lone victory against Navy, a 7-2 decision. 
  • 10 AU wrestlers competed at the Edinboro Open last weekend, with three of them finishing on the podium. JJ Peace took first place at 125 for a second straight year, while Caleb Close finished in fifth at 197, and Gavin Cohen took sixth at 157. 
  • Peace is having a breakout season, holding a 19-8 record to lead the team in wins. The sophomore is also 5-4 in duals, and has become the team's most frequent starter at 125. 
  • Leete at 133 and Caleb Campos at 184 were AU's two ranked wrestlers in the first NCAA coaches' ranking of the year from Jan. 29. Leete landed at 14th and Campos at 27th, the highest ranking of both their careers.
  • Campos has been outstanding for the Eagles, racking up 41 dual points on eight wins. The redshirt junior has 18 overall victories with five pins and four major decisions, and has placed in all three tournaments he's competed in. 
  • Leete is coming off a quality month of January, taking down four ranked wrestlers at the Southern Scuffle and winning two of his next three dual matches. The graduate senior is a win away from 70 in his career. 
  • Senior Raymond Lopez has shared time with Leete at 133, holding a 17-4 record with seven dual wins and 28 dual points for the second most on the team.
