Lacrosse Takes on George Mason at Home on Friday

WASHINGTON - Coming off a commanding win over Howard last Sunday, the American University lacrosse team is back at home on Friday afternoon to host George Mason in another DMV-area matchup.

  • AU is 3-1 against George Mason all-time, winning the last three matchups in a row between the two teams. 
  • Last season, the Eagles routed the Patriots 18-9 on a snowy afternoon in Fairfax. Annabelle Jackson and Reagan Murdoch each had hat tricks, while Kellie Linehan logged five points and two goals and three assists. 
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles are coming off their most productive attacking game of the season so far against Howard, scoring 16 goals against the Bison. 
  • Linehan and Caroline McBride both had hat tricks to lead the way for AU, with McBride adding an assist. 
  • Linehan has been American's top attacking player so far, making an impact as a scorer and playmaker. She leads the team with 14 points on 11 goals and three assists, and is tied for the team lead in draw controls with 10. She totaled seven goals last week across two games, putting in four against GW. 
  • Adria Kotzian leads AU in assists, dishing out seven and adding two goals to her name. The junior midfielder has emerged as the team's most consistent distributor, frequently feeding teammates in the eight-meter area. 
  • Head coach Lindsay Teeters is seeing production out of freshmen midfielders Julia Pope and Shannon Silvius, who have combined for 10 points and four draw controls through their first four collegiate games. Pope is coming off a seven-point performance against Howard, scoring two goals and dishing out five assists for a remarkable day of distribution.
  • Sammie Buonaccorsi leads AU on the defensive end, pairing seven caused turnovers with seven ground balls. Fellow junior Deirdre Brown follows behind her with four forced giveaways and four ground balls, along with four draw controls. 
  • The Eagles have caused 41 total turnovers and are averaging 10.25 per game, the second most in the Patriot League this season.
  • Brooke Hill has started every game in goal so far, but Maryanne Harris has come off the bench in each of the last two contests. Hill has made 28 saves and allowed 43 goals, while Harris has made nine saves and allowed four goals in a small sample size. 
What to Know About George Mason
  • After earning back-to-back wins against Radford and Youngstown, the Patriots are coming off of a 14-12 loss to William & Mary in their most recent matchup. They come into Friday with a 2-3 record.
  • Their 12 goals against William and Mary came on an efficient 20 shots, finishing with a 60% shooting percentage. Turnovers hurt the Patriots in the loss, giving the ball away 12 times and only picking up eight ground balls. 
  • As a team, the Patriots average 11.4 goals per game and allow 9.4. They have controlled possession well this season, totalling a 62-50 advantage at the draw circle.
  • Senior attacker Kate Anders headlines George Mason's roster as the team's most dangerous offensive weapon. Anders leads the team with 27 points on 19 goals and 8 assists, adding 19 draw controls. Freshman attacker Delaney Stup follows behind her with 10 goals.
