Hot-Shooting George Washington Defeats Lacrosse, 15-10

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team was unable to stop George Washington's attack on Wednesday afternoon, as the Revolutionaries shot 62% on their way to the 15-10 result. The Eagles clawed back into the game after falling behind 5-0, but they couldn't close the gap on the home side.

Notable
  • Kellie Linehan led the attacking effort for American, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist. With her first goal of the day, the senior reached 100 career points.
  • Anastasia Byrnes and Reagan Murdoch scored two goals each, with Murdoch adding an assist.
  • The Eagles had their best day from the draw control circle so far this season, besting GW 14 to 13. Linehan and Nickie Prendergast both collected four, while Izzy Masengarb got to three.
  • Sophomore Maryanne Harris came on in relief of Brooke Hill in goal early in the second quarter, making five saves and allowing just two goals.
  • Freshman Celia Bacik scored her first career goal.
  • The Eagles were only out shot 24 to 22, but the Revolutionaries' 62% shooting percentage to AU's 45% made the difference.
How it Happened
  • The Revolutionaries got out to a 5-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the game, a run that was halted by a goal from Reagan Murdoch at the six-minute mark.
  • Just over three minutes later, Adria Kotzian found Linehan cutting to the cage from behind the net, and the senior finished on goal to make it 5-2.
  • Parker Febo put in a free position chance before the end of the quarter, giving the home side a 6-2 lead.
  • After another GW goal from Mia Milkowski 40 seconds into the second quarter, Linehan got into a groove and found the back of the net three times in a 3:12 span. In a flash, AU trailed by just two 7-5.
  • The Revs answered the Linehan spurt with a 4-0 run to make it 11-6, taking their largest lead of the game into the fourth quarter.
  • Byrnes scored back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter, including an acrobatic shot as she dove through the middle of the eight-meter and drew a foul in the process.
  • Murdoch and Bacik added goals late in the quarter for AU, but it was too late to close the gap on the Revs.
