Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Georgetown

WASHINGTON - On a 33-degree afternoon at the Jacobs Complex, the American University lacrosse team fell to Georgetown 14-3. Kellie Linehan and Julia Pope combined to score AU's goals, while Brooke Hill made nine saves in her debut for the Eagles.

Notable
  • The sophomore keeper Hill also picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover.
  • Pope's goal was the first of the freshman's career, and Linehan's two tallies put her five points away from 100. 
  • AU's defense caused 11 of Georgetown's 16 turnovers. Sophomore Lauren Pramik led the way with three, Nickie Prendergast and Rayah Johnson each had two, and Madison Barber and Sammie Buonaccorsi had one. 
  • The Eagles were outshot 32 to 11. 
How it Happened
  • A goal from Linehan at the 10:23 mark of the first quarter put AU down 2-1, but that was as close as the score would get the rest of the way. 
  • The Hoyas saw goals scored by six different players in the first half, led by three from McGovern. 
  • Linehan's second goal came int eh final second of the third period, making the score 12-2. 
  • Pope scored with three seconds remaining in the game, finding the back of the net for the first time off a quality feed from Adria Kotzian.
