Series History
  • This will be the 77th meeting between American and Lafayette, with AU leading 43-33.
  • AU had won four of the last six, including both in the regular season last year and a third in the PL Tournament quarterfinals, but Lafayette won on a buzzer-beater in Bender earlier this season when Caleb Williams hit the go-ahead layup for a 67-65 victory.
  • American got a road win on Jan. 29, 75-68, after Matt Rogers scored 21 points to lead four Eagles in double digits. AU trailed by seven with 5:46 to play, but closed out the game going 12-of-12 at the free-throw line to secure the comeback victory.
  • Rogers was the hero in the 60-58 home win on Feb. 10, hitting a jumper with 3.2 seconds left to cap a 19-point effort.
  • Down 11 at halftime in the PL quarterfinals last season, AU stormed back for a 71-69 win. Greg Jones led the Eagles with 17 points, hitting 3-of-4 from long range while posting five rebounds.
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles are back on track and are part of a three-way tie for third in the Patriot League after winning back-to-back games following a five-game skid.
  • Freshman Madden Collins has led the Eagles in scoring in 10 games this season including in each of the last two wins. He scored 22 points against Army and 16 at Bucknell. Collins leads AU with 13.6 points per game, followed by junior Greg Jones with 12.1 points per game.
  • Two of the recent losses were on back-to-back buzzer-beating shots, and the Eagles are getting a rematch with both of those teams this week. First up was Bucknell, after Achile Spadone hit a 30-footer for a 60-59 win at AU just two weeks ago, but the Eagles answered with an 18-point road win.
  • Lafayette's Caleb Williams hit a go-ahead layup in the final second of the Leopards' 67-65 win at American on Jan. 31.
  • AU remains the only Patriot League team to have beaten Navy this season, winning 65-51 behind a career-high 23 points from Greg Jones
  • Seven players—Collins, Jones, Julen Iturbe, Wyatt Nausadis, Kade Sebastian, Geoff Sprouse, and Dean Hogans—have all been leading scorers for AU this season.
  • As a team, AU leads the PL in turnover margin (2.36), and steals (7.82 per game). The Eagles rank second in scoring defense (71.5 ppg) and second in free-throw percentage (.757). Their FT percentage is also good enough for 63rd in NCAA Division I.
 What to Know About Lafayette
  • After a challenging non-conference schedule that saw the Leopards go 3-10, Lafayette sits 6-9 in the Patriot League after an 86-83 comeback win at Holy Cross on Wednesday night.
  • The Leopards lost three of four after their last-second win over AU on Jan. 31, including home losses to Loyola Maryland and Lehigh.
  • Sophomore guard Caleb Williams leads the Leopards with 16.5 points per game. He adds 3.4 assists, second on the team behind junior guard Mark Butler (3.9).
  • Freshman forward Christian Humphrey-Rembert pulls down 6.5 rebounds a game to lead the team and rank sixth in the PL.
  • Mike McGarvey is now in his third full season as the head coach at after being named acting head coach during the 2022-23 season. That year, he brought Lafayette to the Patriot League title game.
