Two School Records and Standout Diving Highlight Day One of PL Swim & Dive Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two school records in one relay, and one championship finalist in diving were the highlights for American University men's and women's swimming and diving on the first day of the 2026 Patriot League Championships hosted by Navy. The women's 800 freestyle relay broke its own record from November, and freshman Alex Way took seventh on the men's 3-meter board.

Notable
  • Way posted a standout performance on the men's 3-meter with a prelims score of 302.70 to place fifth and advance to the A final, becoming the first diver on the men's side to ever represent AU in a championship final since the Eagles joined the Patriot League. His score is new personal record and good enough for fifth all-time at American.
  • In the final, Way placed seventh with a score of 299.45 to score 23 points for the Eagles.
  • Finishing just off the podium in the women's 200 medley relay, the foursome of sophomore Piper Crosby, sophomore Marin Priddy, senior Isabel McGovern, and sophomore Grace Gilbert placed fourth in 1:40.94 to rank second all-time in program history.
  • The foursome of McGovern, sophomore Fiona McMahon, freshman Lucy Penna, and junior Kate Williams broke their own school record from three months ago in the women's 800 freestyle relay, placing ninth in 7:32.14.
  • McGovern's leadoff 200 free leg of 1:49.41 bested her own record from November by more than a second, and was the fastest leadoff leg of the 10 teams in the race.
  • In the men's 200 medley relay, the Eagles posted a time of 1:31.72 to rank eighth all-time at AU. In that group were sophomore Ryan Pursley, freshman Van Paul, junior Connor Florence, and sophomore Charlie St. Louis.
  • The foursome of sophomore Luke Martens, freshman Matthew Pistorino, freshman Matias Garcia, and junior Lucas Standridge went 6:42.70 in the men's 800 free relay to rank fourth all-time at American.
  • After one day of the championships, the men stand in a tie for seventh place overall while the women are in eighth.
