Bella Marrero earned a second straight Defensive Player of the Week honor, and junior setter
Deniz Dakak joins her as the Player of the Week.
Marrero continues to lead American's effort in keeping balls off the floor, wearing 31 digs this past weekend. In just three sets against Navy, she recorded 17 digs that helped AU hold the Midshipmen to a .131 hitting percentage. Her 248 total digs are third in the Patriot League, and she's averaging 4.35 per set.
Dakak was the driving force behind one of AU's most efficient offensive performances of the season, dishing out 93 assists that helped the Eagles hit .315 across two games. She delivered 51 assists in a 3-1 win against Loyola Maryland on Saturday night, marking the first time in her career that she's eclipsed 50 in a match less than five sets. On Saturday,
Carly Sciborski and
Elise Sterling both hit .600 or better behind her 42 helpers. Dakak also neared a double-double against the Mids, logging nine digs, and she totaled five blocks on the weekend.
The Istanbul, Turkey native now has 599 assists to her name, which ranks 17th in the country.
The Eagles are back in action this Friday, Oct. 9 at home against Colgate. First serve is at 6 p.m.
