Swim & Dive Opens 2025-26 Season on Friday, Hosting the Potomac Relay Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Eagles will dive into another year of competition when they host their annual Potomac Relay Invitational at the Reeves Aquatic Center on Friday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. As was the case last year, the meet will feature six teams: American, Georgetown, George Mason, Howard, Mary Washington, and Mount St. Mary's.

Meet Information
  • As it has become a tradition for the DMV area teams, this will be the first meet for all programs participating.
  • The meet lineup differs from a traditional dual meet lineup with every race being a relay, allowing all teams to ease into the beginning of the season.
  • The meet format will go as follows: 200 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay (4x200), 3x100 Butterfly Relay, 3x100 Backstroke Relay, 3x100 Breaststroke Relay, 500 Freestyle Relay (50-100-150-200), 4x100 IM Relay, 1000 Freestyle Relay (2x500), 200 Freestyle Relay.
  • The women will precede the men in each event. There will be two heats for all events except for the 4 x 800 and 2 x 500. Heat 2 will be the scoring heat and Heat 1 the non-scoring heat. Individuals may swim up to four relays.
  • There will be no diving as part of this event, either at AU or one of the participating schools. The first meet for the divers will be on Friday, Oct. 3 in AU's dual home dual meet against UMBC.
Parking on Campus
  • As of August 25, parking on campus is being actively monitored seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Parking is available on a per-event basis in any campus garage after 5 p.m., and standard hourly parking is available in two campus garages at any time.
    • Event Parking: $10 per contest for events held after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends (available through the PayByPhone app in any garage using code (211950).
    • Hourly Parking: Standard hourly garage rates apply from 8 am-10 pm in the Katzen Arts Center and School of International Service garages.

Looking Back
  • Last year saw the women's team tie for a first-place finish while the men's team finished fourth.
  • The women won the 200 Medley Relay, 3x100 Butterfly Relay, and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Senior Isabel McGovern and sophomores Piper Crosby, Grace Gilbert, Claire Mosher, and Marin Priddy return to defend these victories.
  • The men picked up a second-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle Relay. Sophomore Luke Martens returns to this event.
  • With the graduation of many significant relay swimmers, such as Mimi Watts on the women's side and Aidan Delehanty on the men's side, this year's lineup should see new faces in almost every event.
New Eagles to Watch
  • Along with it being the first meet of the year for AU, it will also be the collegiate debut for 16 newcomers.
  • Lucy Penna hopes to be a major asset to a young sprint group. Her best times in the 50 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle would have placed in both C-Finals at the 2025 Patriot League Championships.
  • Gavin Shifflett specializes in several freestyle events, from the 50 all the way up to the 500. This could make a big impact for the Eagles in events like the 500 Freestyle Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay.
