Alumni Day and Doug Dugan Award
  • The Eagles are excited welcome back alumni to campus and announce the 2025 Doug Dugan award winner this weekend.
  • The Doug Dugan award is named in memory of soccer alumnus and beloved husband, father and friend, Doug Dugan ('81), who passed away in 2016. Doug's family, former teammates and classmates remember him as a great player, dedicated teammate and fun-loving individual who remained selfless and ever upbeat as he battled a debilitating disease his entire adult life. This memorial aims to capture Doug's spirit and preserve it as a perpetual example for every Eagles soccer player in the future.
  • The award is given annually to the AU men's soccer player who embodies the attitudes and attributes of leadership and excellence, characteristics for which Doug is fondly remembered – on and off the pitch.  Awarded by fellow teammates and the coaching staff, the awardee will have shown dedication to the team, determined work ethic, and a selfless spirit that lifted his teammates to their optimal level.
Series History
  • AU is 13-9-6 against Colgate all-time, most recently tying the Red Raiders 1-1 on Sep. 21 last season.
  • Troy Elgersma scored the lone goal for AU in that match, a highlight-reel rocket from outside the box that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Blake Pipkin scored in the 83rd minute for Colgate.
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 loss at Delaware on Saturday, Sep. 6. AU fell behind two goals in the first half, making Mustapha Sowe's late goal not enough to get a result.
  • Sophomore Moad Ezzahir picked up the assist on the goal, his team-leading second of the season.
  • Conceding early has been a struggle for the Eagles, as they've now allowed the first goal in their last four matches and have only led once.
  • It was a challenging non-conference schedule prior to PL play for AU, facing two ranked opponents (#1 Vermont and #11 Virginia), and four of the five matches coming on the road.
  • The Eagles played their best game of the season against #1 Vermont, coming back from a goal behind to draw the defending national champions. Elgersma scored the game-tying goal, while Matthew Tibbets made four quality saves to keep AU within striking distance.
  • Elgersma has been American's most active attacking player, leading the team in goals (two) shots (eight), and shots on goal (four). He's created well from the midfield also, consistently placing balls in the attacking third for his teammates to set up goal scoring chances.
  • Tibbetts has started all but one match in goal for the Eagles, making 18 saves with a 1.75 GAA.
What to Know About Colgate
  • Colgate (3-1-1) is coming off of a 3-0 loss to UConn last Sunday, when two early goals in the second half secured the win for the Huskies at home. Colgate was outshot 16-9.
  • Colgate's last away game at Stonehill resulted in a 3-0 win, led by freshman forwards Cole Ramey and Ryan Schachter, both with a goal and an assist.
  • While Colgate averages just 8.6 shots per game (ninth in the Patriot League) the Red Raiders have been efficient in shot selection, scoring six goals in five matches so far.
  • Cole Ramey leads the team in the attacking third with two goals and three shots on goal.
  • Pipkin is another player to look out for, as he's been on the verge of his first goal of the season with 11 shots and one assist.
  • In goal is the senior Eric Widrick, who has played every minute for the Red Raiders. Leading the Patriot League with 30 saves this season, Widrick has held a clean sheet in three of matches so far.
  • With a high shot efficiency and late scoring runs, this Colgate team will look to keep possession from American looking for that scoring opportunity when they face off this Saturday.
  • Leading Colgate is head coach Erik Ronning, who has taken the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament six times.
