BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lorelei Bangit, a sophomore sprinter on the American University track team, has been honored to the Outdoor Track Academic All-Patriot team, the conference office announced on Tuesday. This is Bangit's second time being named to the team.
Boston University's Vera Sjöberg on the women's side and Karsen Vesty on the men's side were named the Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the outdoor track season. Army West Point and Boston University led the way with nine selections apiece across both the men's and women's teams.
Combining honors for indoor and outdoor track, Bangit has so far been honored twice as a PL Academic Honor Roll selection. After having been honored to the 2025 Academic-All League team for indoor track, the sophomore finds herself with two consecutive commendations as an Academic All-Leaguer.
At the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, Bangit earned silver in the 400 in a program-best 54.00 seconds, smashing the record she herself set the previous day in prelims. She broke her own school records four times over the course of the two day meet–twice each in the 400m and 200m dashes. She came back to place fourth in the 200m finals in 24.21 seconds. Bangit also anchored the women's 4x100m relay team that earned a bronze, third-place medal and broke another school record, bringing her total to five records over the course of the meet. The relay squad set the new benchmark at 46.22.
Bangit, seeking a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.81 and was the sole recipient of an award from the School of Education at the SASP Awards held in April. She also volunteers her time as a track coach at a local middle school.
