PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The women's sprint relays competed strongly at the Penn Relays (Apr. 25), narrowly missing the finals of the college heats and the program records they set earlier this season. This was the first time the Eagles sent a women's squad to the meet.
The women opened up the meet on Friday afternoon in the 4x100 relay, with the squad of Clark, Dorval, Thacker, and Bangit running 47.46 seconds for 13th place in the college heats. Their time was just off the school record of 47.05 they'd set at the George Mason Ebanks Invitational (Apr. 5).
Later on Friday evening, Bangit, Clark, Dorval, and Gin placed 15th in the college heats with a time of 3:53.60, just off their school record mark of 3:49.86.
With their best marks from the season, the women's squad will go into the Patriot League Championships ranked third in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x400.
Coaches' Corner
"Penn Relays was an amazing opportunity for the girls to compete at one of the most competitive meets on the East Coast, especially with such a young group—most of them being freshmen," said assistant coach
Tyra Massey. "Racing against some of the best teams in the country, just before Patriot Leagues, was really good preparation. I'm also really grateful that we made history as the first women's team from American University to ever compete at Penn Relays. I am excited to compete at conference!"
