RALEIGH, N.C. – The Eagles had a successful campaign against top competition at the Raleigh Relays at NC State this weekend (Mar. 27-29). Sophomore
Lorelei Bangit continued her record-breaking streak, running 54.80 in the 400 meters for a lifetime best and new AU record. She placed 12th in a field of 105 runners. One day later, she broke another one of her school records, running a PR of 24.54 in the 200.
- On Thursday (Mar. 27), junior Kaden Kluth ran a massive PR of 3:41.90 in the 1500 meters, improving his personal best by six seconds and moving up to fourth on AU's all-time list. He placed 22nd in the 202-person event.
- In the evening on Thursday, junior Cooper Michaud and freshman Noah Smith both ran personal bests in the 5k. Michaud ran 14:41.95 while Smith ran 14:53.85.
- The sprinters for AU started their race weekend on Friday (Mar. 28) with the 400 meters. Along with Bangit's school record, freshman Zoe Clark put her name on the top-10 list with a PR and third all-time mark of 57.94 seconds.
- On Saturday afternoon (Mar. 29), junior Carver Morgan placed fourth out of 160 athletes in the 800 meters with a PR of 1:48.45. His PR improved on the lifetime best 1:49.37 he set indoors at the Patriot League Championships earlier this month (Mar. 2). His outdoor mark puts him at second all-time for the Eagles.
Coaches' Corner
"We had a great weekend down here at Raleigh," said head coach
Sean Graham. "We've got athletes racing in some of the fastest races in the nation now and competing very well.
"
Kaden Kluth kicked off the meet in the men's 1500 with a massive PR of 3:41. This puts him at fourth all time at AU and currently at 19th on the NCAA East qualifying list, in which the top 48 athletes are selected for the NCAA first round. In the women's 400 both Lorelei and Zoe had very solid days, Zoe notching an outdoor PR in the 57s, a good place to be in March for a freshman. Lorelei continued her winning ways, taking her heat in a new PR and lowering her own school record. Lorelei came back today to click off a PR and yet
another school record in the 200.
"
Carver Morgan and Kaden then went back to work in the 800 this afternoon. Kaden had a little fatigue in his legs from Thursday's success, finishing with a 1:51. Carver repeated his Patriot Leagues performance, winning his heat handily leading wire-to-wire with a massive PR and fourth place overall finish. This time is second all time at AU, and should place him in the top 10 to 15 in the NCAA East currently. All in all, a great start to the outdoor season!"
