WASHINGTON - After a record-setting performance, the 4x400 meter relay team from American University women's indoor track has earned the title of Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2. The group includes senior
Lucia Ianello, freshman
Lara Gin, freshman
Zoe Clark, and sophomore
Lorelei Bangit.
The squad smashed the previous school record of 4:01.23, running 3:56.03 to win the relay at George Mason's Patriot Games on Feb. 1. American beat out eight other relay teams in the event to close out a successful day at the meet. The Eagles ran away from the rest of the field, winning by more than nine seconds. Individually, Bangit won the women's 400 meter, leading a 1-2-3 sweep that saw Gin take second and Clark finish third. Ianello was third in the women's 800 meter.
The Eagles will be back in Virginia next week, heading to Lynchburg to compete at the Liberty Open on February 7-8.
