BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After scoring the game-winning goal in American University men's soccer's 2-1 victory at Holy Cross on Friday,
Toshi Davis has been named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week.
Davis picked a great time to score his first goal of the season and second of his career, breaking a 1-1 tie against Holy Cross and earning the Eagles a win that sealed a first round bye in the Patriot League Tournament. Just 13 minutes after the Crusaders had leveled the score in the second half,
Troy Elgersma forced a turnover in the home side's half, fed the ball ahead to
Reyes Parra, and the junior midfielder took a shot that forced a diving save from John Smith. Davis raced to the loose rebound, beating two defenders to the ball and driving his shot to the top of the net to regain the lead for AU in the 73rd minute.
The Eagles are in first place in the Patriot League, and they can clinch a number one seed in the Tournament with a win over Navy on Tuesday in the regular season's final match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Reeves Field.
